A Chicago police officer says he stopped a man who stole his badge after he was spotted leaving the police station on Saturday, and he says the man was a known criminal who had previously been arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer.
The officer says the suspect, who he described as “white,” was spotted in a vehicle, which was parked near a parking lot and stopped in the middle of the street.
Officers searched the vehicle, but the suspect was not found, and officers did not locate any weapons or other evidence, the officer said.
He says officers were able to determine the suspect had a badge and identification.
Chicago police said Saturday that a man was arrested after he stole an officer’s badge in downtown Chicago on Saturday.
Police said he was identified by a badge that was left on the ground at the scene.
At least two other officers were injured during the incident, but police did not release the identities of those officers.
